As you get older, many people who have trouble sleeping. But a new study shows that couldn't sleep that is what makes us age.

In a study published in the journal Neuron this month, researchers found that insomnia occurs because certain mechanisms on the brain changed as you get someone.

Study lead author Matthew Walker, head of laboratorim sleep and neuroimagingat University of California, said that sleep is due to loss of connections of neuronsin the brain that captures gestures of the body. In an experiment comparing the number and type of chemical signals involved in the young mice to sleep at an older, neurologist found that these chemical signals are not looked at that age.

The problem is, the receptors in the brain that receive the signal decreases as you get older. That means, an aging brain has the same sleep cues but was unable to catch these signals.

"It's almost like a weak radio antenna. The signal is there, but the antenna could not pick it up, "said Walker was quoted as saying from Huffingtonpost.

While insomnia is a consequence of aging, sleep is not enough actually could be a cause of aging itself. Scientists have even found the causal relationships between lack of sleep and cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity.

Sleep Foundations says that parents need seven to nine hours of sleep a night, the same number of teens who are growing. But they didn't get it.

The National Institute on Aging in fact found that 13 percent of men and 36 percent of women over the age of 65 years it took more than 30 minutes to fall asleep. They also rarely able to sleep soundly and wake up more often in the middle of the night.
